La Victoriana is the co-creation of Helio Bastien, Mexican Agronomist and Ethnobotanist, and his wife Alison, Certified Professional Midwife, Herbalist and Natural Health Educator. The shop grew out of their work together as parents and researchers- Alison's midwifery practice and Helio's work as an agronomist. La Victoriana enabled them to share their visions with the diverse San Miguel community which includes Mexicans from a wide range of economic and educational backgrounds, tourists and foreign ex-pats who have settled in their beautiful town. In La Victoriana, Helio and Alison wanted to create a place for people to come and learn about how to manage their health using plants, because plant medicine is real, accesible, generally gentle, and alive.Through her midwifery practice, Alison saw time and again how empowering it was for people to realize that there are simple and safe remedies and that they can make informed choices for themselves and their families' healthcare. Helio, as business manager and visionary, has guided the shop's development into a successful business in which he and Alison have been able to work together doing work they truly believe in.
Since its creation in 1991, La Victoriana has expanded from selling mainly herbal tinctures and mother and baby care products, to offering over 340 handmade herbal products for health, beauty and well-being as well as classes and workshops on Herbalism, Homeopathy, Natural Childbirth and Alternative (Original) Healing. |
