This month I'd like to feature one very noble and versatile plant:
Calendula. If you are familiar with the shop you may have noticed a great
number of our products are made with calendula. CALENDULA OFFICINALIS is
also known in spanish as "maravilla" (marvel) or "mercadela". It is a
common garden flower of cheery golden color. Its constituents include
saponins, flavenoids, mucilagens and steroid compounds. Its action is
classified as astringent, antiseptic, anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory, wound
healing, menstrual regulator and stimulates the bile production. Traditionally it is used topically on chicken pox and measles, pimples, as a wound wash, for ulcerations, eczema, painful or cracked nipples when nursing, diaper rash and dry inflamed skin as well as burns. A strong infusion of flowers is also used as a mouth rinse for ulcers or gum disease, or a douche for vaginal infections or yeast (candida). The tincture or tea is traditionally used for menopause, menstrual cramps, and gastritis. You can find many products with calendula at La Victoriana, including the LIP BALM, and COLD SORE BALM. We carry CALENDULATED OIL, CALENDULA SALVE, CALENDULA BABY SALVE (with lavender and chamomile essential oils) and gentle CHAMOMILE SOAP. Our TALCO is a non-talcum (lead free) powder useful for athlete's foot, on underarms as a deoderant, and of course, on baby's bottom to heal or prevent diaper rash. Our natural deoderant spray is in a calendula base. Calendula is an important ingredient in the TONIFICADOR HERBAL for oily or pimply skin, THE SPRAY DE CURACION (first aid spray),THE LINAMIENTO PARA HEMMOROIDES (hemorroid linament), and SPRAY PARA LAS QUEMADURAS (burn spray). It is also one of the ingredients in many of our face creams, including 40 KILATES (40 Karat Cream), JASMIN Y AGUACATE (Jasmine and Avocado), RESCUE REMEDY cream and of course, the CREMA DE CALENDULA~ our own calendula cream moisturizer for sensitive and /or spotty skin. We also carry the tincture as well as a postpartum tea with calendula as an external wash or internal douche for healing sensitive tissues after childbirth. Every home should have at least a CALENDULA SALVE for minor skin problems, wounds, or fungus of all kinds; as well as some SPRAY or LINAMENTO DE CURACIÓN (herbal antiseptic spray). Mejor conocida en español como: "la maravilla" o la "mercadela". Su nombre técnico es CALENDULA OFFICIONALIS. Si uno conoce a la tienda LA VICTORIANA, a lo mejor se ha notado que un gran cantidad de nuestros productos continienen la Calendula. Su flor amarilla-dorada se encuentra en muchos jardines caseras y públicas. Sus constituyentes incluyen saponinas, flavonoides, múcilago, resina y compuestos esteroides. Su acción se classifica como astringente, antiseptica, fungicida, antiinflamatoria, cicatrizante, regulador menstrual y estimulador del produccion de bilis. Por lo mismo sus usos tradicionales incluyen uso externo para la varicela y sarampión, barritos de la cara, lavado para heridas, ulceras, eczema, pezones adoloridas o agrietadas en la lactancia, rosadura de pañal o para piel reseca o inflamada, y las quemaduras. Una infusion fuerte de las flores también se utiliza como enjuage buccal para gengivitis, ulceras, aftas, y algodoncillo, y como lavado vaginal para infecciónes o hongos (candidasis). Se ha usado la tintura tradicionalmente para la menopausia, cólicos menstruales y gastritis. Uno encontrará muchos productos con Calendula en La Victoriana incluyendo los PROTEGE LABIOS, y la POMADA PARA LOS FUEGOS LABIALES. Manejamos ACEITE DE CALENDULA, (sin aroma) el ACEITE HERBAL (en una variedad de aromas), POMADA DE CALENDULA y POMADA DE CALENDULA PARA BEBÉS (con aceites essenciales de lavanda y manzanilla) y el suave JABON DE CALENDULA. Nuestro TALCO sin plomo (que contienen muchos de los talcos comerciales) y útil para pie de atleta, en las axilas como desoderante y, por su puesto, para prevenir o corregir la rosadura de pañal del bebé. Nuestro DESODERANTE NATURAL (en spray) es a base de la calendula. Casi toda la linea para bebés incluye la calendula en su receta porque aparte de su amplio poder curativa, es sumamente suave para el cútis. Calendula se figura en el TONIFICADOR HERBAL para piel grasosa o con barritos, el SPRAY DE CURACIÓN, SPRAY DE QUEMADURAS, y LINAMENTO PARA LOS HEMMOROIDES. También compone parte de los ingredientes en varias cremas para la cara que fabricamos~ como la de 40 KILATES, la del JASMIN Y AGUACATE, CREMA AL RESCATE, y por su puesto, LA CREMA DE CALENDULA- lo cual es humectante y desmanchadora.
