The skin is the largest organ of the body; it is the outer layer that takes in oxygen and helps move out toxins we don’t need. Putting comercial creams on the skin pours drying alchohol, mineral oil, and a variety of vitamin-leeching petrochemicals directly into our bloodstream. This is why at La Victoriana we make all our own soaps.

All of our soaps are made with only natural ingredients, from the JABON NEUTRO (neutral, scentless soap) to our many variations with rosewater and coconut base like CALENDULA, healing for sensitive skin, CHAMOMILE HONEY (manzanilla miel), gently anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial, OATMEAL, and MILK AND HONEY (avena, leche, y miel) all of which are perfect for babies or sensitive skin.
We also make COMFREY-MINT (consuelda y menta) invigorating for oily skin, as well as CALENDULA,, TEA TREE, AND SULPHER (Calendula, Tea Tree y Azufre) for acne or fungal problems.
THE GREEN TEA AND OLIVE OIL soap (te verde y aceite de olivo) is rich in anti-oxidants and sun protection, while the EXFOLIANTE bar has cornmeal and orange to gently exfoliate.

In addition to these more specialized soaps we also carry round soaps wrapped in brightly colored tissue which feature a range of floral scents in a natural base with rosewater and milk solids to moisturize and pamper your skin.
All are handmade by our double milling process, in the french style. Our employees patiently grate down the soap base and then blend them with herbs and oils for extra smoothness.

Everything you put on your skin goes ultimately into your bloodstream via the pores, which is why we have so many face creams, soaps and oils to choose from, all natural enough to eat! (But please don’t eat the soap- some do have perfume fragrances). One of our most unusual soaps is the GROUND COFFEE SOAP, especially handy in the kitchen, as it neutralizes odors from chopping onions or garlic, or whatever you’ve gotten your hands into.

For gentle exfoliating, we have the SILKEN SKIN VANILLA FACIAL SCRUB GRAINS (exfoliante “Piel de Seda”)- a mixture of Kaolin clay, bee pollen, comfrey root, cornmeal and other ingredients. Sprinkle a teaspoon into your palm after lathering up your face with one of our soaps and scrub away the layer of dead skin cells, dirt, and excess oils left on your face. It can be used all over the body, sprinkled on your loofa or washcloth while you scrub in the shower.

LOS JABONES

La piel es el organo mas grande del cuerpo que permite entrar oxigeno y ayuda a remover los toxinas que no necesitamos. Aplicando cremas comerciales al cutis brinde mucho alcohol, aceite mineral y una variedad de petroquimicos que quitan la vitalidad y los vitaminas del cutis y entran al sistema sanguinea.

Por eso, en La Victoriana, fabricamos todos nuestros jabones desde elJABON NEUTRO (sin fragrancia) hasta las variadades con agua de rosas y aceite de coco como base.

Por ejemplo, la de CALENDULA para curar piel sensible o dañado, la de MANZANILLA Y MIEL, suavemente anti-inflammatorio y antibacterial, LECHE , AVENA Y MIEL, lo cual, igual que los dos anteriormente mencionados es perfecto para el bebe o piel sensible.

La de CONSUELDA Y MENTA y el de JENGIBRE Y LIMON son energeticos y buenos para piel grasoso. El de CALENDULA, TEA TREE Y AZUFRE es para el acne o problemas de hongos. El jabon de TE VERDE CON ACEITE DE OLIVO es rico en antioxidantes y proteccion solar, y el EXFOLIANTE cuenta con cornmeal (del maiz) y naranja.

Los jabones redondos envueltos en papel de china tienen una variedad de olores florales, todos en nuestro base de agua de rosas y crema humectante para todo tipo de piel.

Todos los jabones son doble procesados estilo Frances, lo cual implica que nuestras empleadas rayan el jabon con mucho paciencia y lo vuelven a formar ya con las hierbas y aceites para que salen extra suaves.

Todo lo que apliques al cutis entra al ultimo a su circulacion sanguina a traves de los poros, y por eso tenemos tantas opciones de jabones, cremas y aceites- todos tan naturales que casi se pueden comer! (Pero por favor no lo intentas-ademas muchos llevan fragrancias de perfume!) El jabon mas novedoso que fabricamos es el de GRANOS DE CAFE para neutralizar los olores de la cocina- el ajo, cebolla, o chile que se puede pegar a las manos.

Para exfoliar tenemos el EXFOLIANTE “PIEL DE SEDA”- una mezcla de barro blanco, polen de abeja, raiz de consuelda, sambuco, cornmeal, y otros ingredientes. Se aplica una cucharadita en su mano despues de hacer espuma con el jabon en su cara, y frote sobre la cara para remover la capa de celulas muertas, quitar grasas en exceso, y renovar la complexion. Se puede usar en todo el cuerpo, aplicandolo a su esponja o ayate junto con el jabon.

NEW PRODUCTS FOR JULY

 Nuevos Productos para Julio

• We are excited to carry a fabulous line of products from the “Solo Lavanda” co-operative at Rancho Colorado, out towards Dolores-Hidalgo. This small community is growing and producing lavender which they use to make some really wonderful, all-natural products including shea-butter soaps and hand-embroidered eye pillows. At La Victoriana, we are currently carrying Solo Lavanda soaps, sachets, and eye pillows.
• We will also be carrying products from Fibras Naturales (Monica Galera) including hand-made paper for writing your poems, notes and such. Monica has a beautiful studio out by Atotonilco and showroom for those who would like to see her wide range of natural fiber felt, paper and decorative interior pieces. It is well worth the visit.

DID YOU KNOW?

What is not new, but many of our customers may not be aware of, is that most of the items (80% or more) in La Victoriana are not only hand-made, but locally-made as well. We make it a priority to carry items made by real people we personally know. This includes:

• jewelry by Renee Courtney
• hand-crocheted sweaters, hats & hand-embroidered dresses by several women from town and from local ranchos
• “Boppy” baby nursing pillows
• all of our creams, lotions, capsules, oils, sprays and soaps
• a luxurious line of papery-thin linen christening gowns, baby dresses, and women’s nightwear. These are hand-embroidered and the lace accents are hand-made by women in Brazil. Our supplier, who only comes twice a year to leave us her one-of-a-kind selections, personally goes to the homes and watches the women making the elaborate battenberg and renaissance style lace details.

We are all about and fully supportive of: hand-work, “fair trade” (no sweatshops involved!), women as small business owners, and the celebration of creative handwork. We always have been – for the 17 years our shop has been in business – and we always will be!

We strive to improve and evolve, as well as upgrade our presentations and quality in an ongoing commitment. All the while firmly maintaining our criteria of simple, hand-made (by real people we know), and mostly local.
